Institute of Coding Annual Conference 2020 – Thinking differently about lifelong learning – 24th & 25th February 2020

The TechUP team, Professor Sue Black, Professor Alexandra Cristea, Johanna Waite and EmJay Nicholas, headed to London for a session at the IoC Annual Conference. The session started with a conversation with the TechUp team following by a mini-panel with four of our TechUpWomen, Judith Nathanail, Muma Sinkala, Sarah Kelly-Olatunji and Shakirah Mustapha-Tahir.

The focus of the session was:

  • How we developed the programme with industry partners to ensure it is real world compatible rather than academic.
  • How we targeted under-represented groups including Women of Colour, Disabled Women and LGBTQ+ Women.
  • How we adapted our delivery methods to suit a wide range of personal circumstances and learning needs.
  • How we created a close and supportive learning community through our online platform, social media and residential weekends.

The team are available for speaking opportunities, if you would like the team to consider speaking at your upcoming event please get in touch at ioc.techup@durham.ac.uk
